Perhaps the pre-announcement meetings were all about fairly and equitably sharing the B12 leftovers to each get to 16 teams for Alliance scheduling:

ACC (including ND) needs 1: WV
B1G needs 2: KU and Iowa St.
Pac 12 needs 4: Ok St., Texas Tech, K-State, BYU (makes more sense than TCU or Baylor)

I love your thinking on the CFP.
